CEPA ♡ CARES

Wishing you and yours a climate-conscious holiday season this year!

Enjoy our fun holiday video and read below for some great ideas to reduce your environmental footprint this year and tips to bring some festive joy to your winter.

Best wishes this holiday season from our teams in Germany, France, and eco-partner in Costa Rica

A climate-friendly Christmas this year does not have to compromise on the things we enjoy during the festive season. We’ve compiled some great ideas for everyone to try. Discover something new below.

New Year’s Resolution for 2022

Reduce Your Environmental Footprint

Make a donation to have one or more tree(s) planted at our biodiversity and reforestation project at the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica. As the trees grow and mature, they absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Even though reforestation is an important way to fight climate change, your donation also includes Certified Emission Reductions (CERs).

Click on the button below to learn more about CERs and how to donate to our project in cooperation with the Saimiri Foundation in Costa Rica.

Geo-track Your Tree

Use the code on the upper right hand corner of your certificate to locate your tree in Costa Rica.

Learn more about the plants and animals

Thirty-two thousand trees from at least 13 different native species will be planted, capturing carbon and mitigating climate change.

The reforested areas will serve as forested corridors for wandering animals seeking new habitats.

The project provides seasonal employment for the local inhabitants.

♡ Tis the season ♡

to Rethink, Reuse, and Recycle!

Environmentally Friendly Gift Wrapping Ideas

Consider wrapping your presents this year in fabric, dish towels, old newspapers or magazines, or other resuable items.

The Art of Furoshiki Wrapping

Make Reusable and Homemade Decorations

Looking for some DIY Projects? You will be surprised how many decorations and gifts you can create with materials you don’t have to buy. Some inspirations are:

  • Dried Orange Garland
  • Paper Bag Stars
  • Crochet Stars

Stay away from anything with glitter or tinsel which cannot be recycled and ends up in the landfill or oceans.

Choose a Sustainable or Reusable Tree

Real or fake? That is still up to discussion.

If you do choose a real tree, why not consider choosing a tree with the root ball so that it can continue to grow and thrive in your garden in the years to come.

Have a Zero Waste Meal

  • Buy the turkey at the farmers market (ask for organic or sustainably raised)
  • Shop for seasonal and regional vegetables
  • Choose products wrapped in recyclable jars rather than unrecyclable plastic wrapping or paper containers

A few ideas…

Challenge yourself and reduce your carbon footprint by:

Glasgow Declaration

CEPA and CEPA Foundation proudly took action this December to become signatories of the Glasgow Declaration which is a climate commitment to a decade of climate action in the travel industry.

By joining the #GlasgowDeclaration, we are committing to:

✅ Support the global commitment to halve emissions by 2030 and reach Net Zero as soon as possible before 2050

✅ Deliver climate action plans within 12 months from becoming a signatory (or updating existing plans), and begin implementing them

✅ Align our plans with the five pathways of the Declaration (Measure, Decarbonize, Regenerate, Collaborate, Finance) to accelerate and co-ordinate climate action in tourism

✅ Report publicly on an annual basis on progress against interim and long-term targets, as well as on actions being taken

✅ Work in a collaborative spirit, sharing good practices and solutions, and disseminating information to encourage additional organisations to become signatories and supporting one another to reach targets as quickly as possible

Service-Learning Programs in Costa Rica

Faculty-led Programs

Partner with CEPA Foundation to create a service-learning volunteer and/or awareness program. We will match projects in the community to meet the needs of your students and faculty leaders or together, we can create new initiatives that suit the objectives of the community and your students’ learning journeys.

Biology, animal science, forestry, and sustainable tourism fields of study are naturally a great fit for the current needs of the local community, but students from any academic field can greatly benefit from a service-learning experience.

A wide range of cultural activities and excursions to famous sights of Costa Rica can be incorporated into any program.

We would love to hear from you!
