“To understand a culture, learn its language” is the motto of this study abroad program. While at the Goethe-Institut in Berlin, students can successfully enhance their German skills for their studies and future career. During the planned excursions, as well as during their free time, students will soon discover that Germany is a country with many unique characteristics. It is full of history and tradition, but at the same time, known for innovation and technology.

The first principle of international management is to recognize and appreciate the considerable diversity of countries in the global economy. Since the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the Central and Eastern European countries have grown and developed in many ways.

The purpose of this program is to give students an overview of the political, economic, and culturally diverse environments in Austria as well as in selected Central and Eastern European countries. Students will also come to understand the tremendous challenges that these countries are currently facing.

DAY 1

Cultural Behaviour

Learn the "Golden Three": Learning "Hello," "Please," and "Thank you" in the local language is more than a courtesy; it signals respect for the local identity and immediately changes the dynamic of your interactions.

Travel routes

By basing a program in one location and building in day excursions, we can minimize the environmental impact.

Eat "KM 0"

Look for restaurants with the "Kilometro Zero" label (common in Italy and Spain), which guarantees ingredients are sourced locally.

Water

Refill Stations: Europe has some of the cleanest tap water in the world. Use apps like Refill to find public fountains and avoid buying plastic bottles.

Climate Action

We offset the carbon footprint of our operations and programs, and plant one native tree for each participant in a CEPA study abroad program.

Travel in the "Shoulder" Season

Visiting in March or October helps distribute income to locals year-round and prevents the "ghost town" effect that happens in tourist hubs during winter.

- Visit the European Parliament, which represents the citizens of the member states of the European Union, and afterwards time to explore the Parlamentarium, the European Parliament’s Visitor Center, which displays the European integration and the impact it has on our everyday lives
- Guest lecture on “Navigating the EU Green Taxonomy and ESG Reporting Mandates” by a local economics expert to discuss how sustainability laws are transforming corporate accounting, green financing, and investment compliance across Europe.

- Visit a transatlantic trade organization, such as the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham), to learn how they advocate for cross-border business, promote exports of goods and services between the US and UK markets, and facilitate bilateral investment.

Germany and France have been the driving force of European integration for over half a century and many major European policies derive from Brussels, the administrative center of the European Union.

Students of international business and economics need to understand the European market to succeed in today’s world. This program will introduce students to a variety of international companies and institutions that are well-established and main global players.

By traveling through three different European countries, they will also recognize and appreciate cultural differences at first hand.

DAY 1
- Overnight flight to Frankfurt, Germany (group flight can be booked separately)
DAY 2-3: FRANKFURT
Stay 3 nights at a 3-star hotel in Frankfurt
- Arrival at Frankfurt International Airport (FRA)
- Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
- Guided walking tour of Frankfurt, focusing on “The Financial Aspects of the City”
- Welcome dinner at a German restaurant
- Visit the European Central Bank or the Deutsche Bundesbank to learn about the institution’s role within the Eurosystem
- Visit the German Stock Exchange to learn about the Deutsche Börse Group and the basics of floor and Xetra trading

DAY 4: MANNHEIM - HEIDELBERG
- Visit the ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research, one of Germany’s leading economic research institutes that is non-profit and independent
- Guided walking tour of Heidelberg to learn about the university town’s history
- Admission to the famous Heidelberg Castle
DAY 5-7: BRUSSELS
Stay 3 nights at a 3-star hotel in Brussels
- Train tickets from Frankfurt to Brussels
- Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
- Guided walking tour of Brussels, the capital of Belgium
- Group dinner at a Belgian restaurant
- Free day in Brussels
- Visit the European Commission, which is, alongside the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, one of the three main institutions governing the Union
- Visit the Committee of the Regions, a consultative body of the EU, to understand regional policies implemented by the EU

DAY 8-11: PARIS
Stay 3 nights at a 3-star hotel in Paris
- Train tickets from Brussels to Paris
- Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
- Guided boat tour on the famous Bateaux Parisiens
- Visit Euronext, Europe’s second largest exchange behind the United Kingdom’s London Stock Exchange Group
- Business visit, e.g. to Orange, a French multinational telecommunications corporation
- Visit a French global company to complement your course, such as Schneider Electric, founded in 1836, a world leader in Power and Control solutions today
- Farewell dinner at a French restaurant
- Departure from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)

Scotland is known for its rolling green hills, kilt-wearing bagpipers, whiskey, golf, and ancient castles.

Understanding that local needs, traditions, and conditions have to be taken heavily into consideration in order to achieve substantial and sustainable productivity gains is a major learning outcome for students in this program.

Studying these topics in Scotland places agriculture and food science students directly into a different culture where they can learn to adapt and gain a broader international understanding far from their familiar setting.

- Visit “The Scottish Farmer”, Scotland’s leading farming publication since 1893
- Visit a traditional Scottish kilt manufacturer to understand the tradition of kilt making and the meaning of the different colors, patterns, and tartans
- Guided tour of “The Lighthouse”, which provides fascinating insight into the design features and architectural heritage of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s first public commission
- Admission to the Glasgow Botanic Gardens, which were originally used for concerts and other events

DAY 5-6: CRIEFF - NAIRN - INVERNESS
Stay 3 nights at a 3-star hotel in Inverness
- Guided tour of the Drummond Castle Gardens in Crieff, focusing on horticulture
- Guided tour of a whiskey distillery to experience the distillery’s long and distinguished heritage (tasting included)
- Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
- Admission to the Cawdor Castle, which is surrounded by three gardens: the Flower Garden, the Wild Garden, and the Walled Garden
- Free time to explore Inverness
DAY 7: HIGHLANDS
- Guided bus tour of the Scottish Highlands, which includes many stops to explore the famous Loch Ness, a set of lochs built around 200 years ago, and much more

DAY 8-9: ST. ANDREW’S - EDINBURGH
Stay 5 nights at a 3-star hotel in Edinburgh
- Guided walking tour of the Old Course at St. Andrews, following the footsteps of golf’s greatest athletes
- Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
- Guided walking tour of Edinburgh’s Old and New Town
- Admission to Edinburgh Castle, which dominates the city’s skyline
- Audio-guided tour of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official residence of the Monarch of the UK in Scotland
DAY 10: MOFFAT AREA - LANERCOST
- Visit a sheep or cattle farm to learn about farming and its challenges in Scotland
