Global awareness is the first step towards change as it comprises many elements, for instance knowledge of geography, social, political, and economic systems, institutions, issues, and challenges. Students participating in this study abroad program will benefit from a variety of visits, lectures, and experiences that will enable them to understand international relations and developments as well as cultural diversity. They will be equipped with skills and knowledge necessary to become leading professional policymakers and practitioners in today’s globalized world.

DAY 1
- Overnight flight to Amsterdam, The Netherlands (group flight can be booked separately)
DAY 2-4: THE HAGUE - ROTTERDAM
Stay 3 nights at a 3-star hotel in The Hague
- Arrival at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS)
- Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
- Guided walking tour of The Hague to hear about its history, the royal family, and what the city is most famous for – peace and justice
- Welcome dinner at a Dutch restaurant
- Visit the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the primary judicial organ of the United Nations, to learn about its activities, history, and case law
- Audio-guided tour of the Peace Palace Visitor Center, which informs about the building itself as well as the institutions that are based in it
- Guided bus tour of Rotterdam Port, the largest port of Europe
- Free afternoon in Rotterdam for you to explore the city further on your own
DAY 5-8: DELFT-BRUSSELS
- Guided tour of the Royal Delft Experience to see the only remaining Delft factory from the 17^th century
Stay 4 nights at a 3-star hotel in Brussels
- Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
- Guided walking tour of Brussels, the administrative center of the European Union
- Free afternoon in Brussels for your own explorations
- Admission to the Atomium, Brussels’ landmark building which was originally constructed for the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair
- Free afternoon in Brussels for your own explorations
- Visit the European Commission, the executive branch of the European Union, for a talk on its role and a discussion
- Visit a consulting agency in Brussels to examine various business models

DAY 9-10: MAASTRICHT - TRIER
- Guided walking tour of Maastricht to learn about the birthplace of the Euro
Stay 2 nights at a 4-star hotel in Trier
- Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
- Guided walking tour of Trier, which claims to be Germany’s oldest city
- Free afternoon to explore Trier further at your own pace
DAY 11: NEUSTADT A.D. WEINSTRASSE - LANDAU - STRASBOURG
- Guided tour of the Hambach Castle, which has been considered a symbol of democracy since the Hambacher Fest in 1832
- Free time to explore Landau, a university town and one of the largest wine-growing communities in Germany
Stay 7 nights at the European Study Center Strasbourg (Château de Pourtalès)
- Check-in at the Château and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
DAY 12-14: STRASBOURG
- Visit the Council of Europe, the continent’s leading human rights organization with 47 member states
- Visit the European Parliament, the legislative branch of the European Union and an important forum for political debate and decision-making
- Guided walking tour of Strasbourg, which has forged an identity founded on the dual influences of France and Germany over the centuries
- Guided tour of the Historical Museum, which displays Strasbourg’s history from the middle ages to the creation of European institutions
- Classroom available at the Château for a 3-hour class session
- Free afternoon to explore Strasbourg further on your own

DAY 15: FRANKFURT
- Visit the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, the largest of the seven stock exchanges in Germany
- Visit the Deutsche Bundesbank for a presentation on the bank and its role within the Eurosystem
DAY 16-17: STRASBOURG - RHEINMÜNSTER - MALSCH
- Guest lecture on “Cultural Diversity” at the Château, followed by a group discussion
- Classroom available at the Château for a 3-hour class session
- Visit a company, such as Trinseo Chemiepark Rheinmünster, to learn about its products during a presentation and tour of the facilities
- Visit a logistics company, such as Dachser Logistics in Malsch, to get an insight into their operations in Germany and worldwide
DAY 18-20: PARIS
Stay 2 nights at a 3-star hotel in Paris
- Train tickets from Strasbourg to Paris
- Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
- Guided boat tour with the Bateaux Parisiens on the Seine River to see sights such as the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame Cathedral
- Visit the International Chamber of Commerce, the institutional representative of more than 45 million companies in over 100 countries
- Visit a company, such as Schneider Electric, or an institution, such as the Banque de France, to learn more about their work and internal organization
- Farewell dinner at a French restaurant
- Departure from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)

Criminal justice is the system of practice and institution of government directed at upholding social control, deterring and mitigating crime, or sanctioning those who violate laws.

This study abroad program focuses on the criminal justice systems in England specifically on their core agencies, such as the local courts and the police. Students enrolled in criminology or criminal justice courses will visit a prison and observe trials to allow them to make comparisons to the system employed in their home country.

DAY 1
- Overnight flight to London, UK (group flight can be booked separately)
DAY 2-7: LONDON
Stay 10 nights at a 3-star hotel in London
- Arrival at London Heathrow Airport (LHR)
- Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
- Welcome dinner at a British restaurant
- Guided walking tour of Westminster, focusing on the developments of the Constitutional Monarchy and the governmental system of the UK
- Visit the Westminster Magistrate Courts together with a local guide specialized in law for an introduction to the criminal system in the UK and to observe a proceeding
- Guided tour of the Clink Museum, which is built upon the original site of the Clink Prison
- Time for course assignments
- Guided walking tour on “Jack the Ripper” with a focus on the social history and crime investigation aspects of the case. In the autumn of 1888, the night-time streets of London’s poorest, most deprived neighborhood were haunted by a serial killer. You will stand on the cobblestones where Catherine Eddowes’ body was discovered and see where the few clues to the murders were found.
- Visit Her Majesty’s Prison Wormwood Scrubs, which is a Category B men’s prison, to learn about the history of the facility and the British penal system
- Admission to the Sherlock Holmes Museum, which covers the period from 1881 to 1904. The world-famous consulting detective Sherlock Holmes lived at 221b Baker Street during those years, according to the stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
- Visit the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales, commonly known as the Old Bailey, to observe proceedings alongside a lawyer, learn about the history and architecture of this iconic building, and discuss some of the famous trials that have taken place there involving notable historical figures and landmark cases.
- Meet with a former police officer from the Metropolitan Police (Scotland Yard), which is the territorial police force responsible for Greater London
- Guided tour of the Royal Court of Justice, commonly called the Law Courts, which houses the Court of Appeal of England and Wales and the High Court of Justice of England and Wales
- Admission to the Tower of London, which was a place of imprisonment and execution under the Tudors and a treasure house for the priceless Crown Jewels and the Royal Armouries

DAY 8-12: LONDON - STONEHENGE - WINDSOR
- Day trip by private bus Stonehenge and Windsor Castle.
- Admission to Stonehenge, which was inscribed on the World Heritage List for its outstanding prehistoric monuments dating from 3,700 to 1,600 BC. The unparalleled stone circle is surrounded by a landscape containing more than 350 burial mounds and major prehistoric monuments such as the Stonehenge Avenue, the Cursus, Woodhenge and Durrington Walls.
- Audio -guided tour of Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world that holds a central place in British royal heritage. Founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, it has since been the home of 40 monarchs and is used for ceremonial and official occasions by the British royal family.
- Free day in London
- Guided Tour of the UK Supreme Court: Located in Parliament Square, learn about the highest appellate court in the land, its creation in 2009, and how it handles landmark constitutional and criminal law cases.
- Visit the Bow Street Police Museum: Located nearby in the historic Bow Street Magistrates’ Court building. Discover the history of the Bow Street Runners—London’s first official police force.
- Meet with a UK-based criminal justice charity or prison reform group (such as the Howard League for Penal Reform) to discuss modern alternatives to incarceration and rehabilitation policies.
- Free time for final souvenir shopping or independent exploration.
- Farewell dinner at a classic London restaurant to wrap up the program.
- Departure from London Heathrow Airport (LHR)

Cultural Behaviour

Learn the "Golden Three": Learning "Hello," "Please," and "Thank you" in the local language is more than a courtesy; it signals respect for the local identity and immediately changes the dynamic of your interactions.

Travel routes

By basing a program in one location and building in day excursions, we can minimize the environmental impact.

Eat "KM 0"

Look for restaurants with the "Kilometro Zero" label (common in Italy and Spain), which guarantees ingredients are sourced locally.

Water

Refill Stations: Europe has some of the cleanest tap water in the world. Use apps like Refill to find public fountains and avoid buying plastic bottles.

We offset the carbon footprint of our operations and programs, and plant one native tree for each participant in a CEPA study abroad program.

International law affects virtually every citizen of the world in some way. Students studying this field understand the value of having an international perspective. This program allows students to gain that perspective by visiting some of the most significant organizations in the field of international law.

The Hague is home to over 150 international legal organizations including the International Court of Justice located at the Peace Palace. During the program, students will also have the opportunity to gain insights into Dutch culture and daily life.

DAY 1
- Overnight flight to Amsterdam, The Netherlands (group flight can be booked separately)
DAY 2-5: THE HAGUE
- Orientation session by your on-site CEPA coordinator
- Guided walking tour of The Hague focusing on the city as a political and administrative center
- Welcome dinner at a Dutch restaurant
- Visit the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the primary judicial organ of the United Nations, to learn about its activities, history, and case law
- Visit the International Criminal Court (ICC) to learn about its history, jurisdiction and mandate
- Visit the Peace Palace Library, for a presentation of the oldest and most prestigious library specialized in international law
- Audio-guided tour of the Peace Palace Visitor Center, which informs about the building itself as well as the institutions that are based in it

DAY 6: AMSTERDAM
- Visit one of Amsterdam’s universities for a guest lecture on international criminal law
- Admission to the Anne Frank Museum
DAY 7-8: THE NETHERLANDS
- Free weekend to further explore The Hague, Amsterdam, or the seaside district Scheveningen
DAY 9-12: THE HAGUE
- Visit an agency of the EU dealing with judicial co-operation in criminal matters
- Visit the Humanity House for a lecture on Humanitarian Law
- Visit the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), which was inaugurated in March 2009.
- Visit the Organization of Prohibition of Chemical Weapons
- Farewell dinner at a Dutch restaurant
