During this interdisciplinary program, you will explore Iceland’s rich and unique history and culture. Due to its geographic location, the Icelandic culture, language, and nature have not lost any of their charm over the centuries. Today, Iceland is well known for its mixture of tradition, modernism, its rough climate, and warm-hearted people. Explore Iceland’s unique development from a settlement to a nation.

  • DAY 1

    • Overnight flight to Reykjavík, Iceland (group flight can be booked separately)

  • DAY 2-3: REYKJAVÍK

    Stay 8 nights at a 2-star hotel in Reykjavík

    • Arrival at Keflavík International Airport (KEF)
    • Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
    • Guided walking tour of Reykjavík, during which you will see prominent sights of the city such as the Harpa Music Hall or the Lækjartorg
    • Welcome dinner at an Icelandic restaurant
    • Admission to the Settlement Exhibition – Reykjavik 871± 2, which focuses on the history of the first Vikings that came to stay in Iceland. A special remark is that the complex is built around ruins of a Viking longhouse.
    • Visit the Culture House. The exhibitions feature different objects, reaching from thousand-year-old treasures to the latest in Icelandic art.
    • Guided tour of the National Museum of Iceland to explore the permanent exhibition “Making of a Nation”, which will give you a complete insight into Iceland’s history

  • DAY 4: GOLDEN CIRCLE REGION

    • Guided bus tour of the Golden Circle, which is one of Iceland’s most popular routes. Discover Iceland’s highlights, such as the famous Geysir and Strokkur in the Haukadalur valley, the Þingvellir National Park, or the Gullfoss waterfall. Your bus tour will include a stop at the Friðheimar Greenhouse for lunch.

  • DAY 5-7: REYKJAVÍK

    • Free day to explore the capital of Iceland further at your own pace
    • Guided tour of the Icelandic Ocean Cluster to learn about the Icelandic seafood industry, its high-end food processing structures, and to get an introduction into Iceland’s ocean cluster
    • Audio-guided tour of the National Maritime Museum of Iceland. Seven exhibitions give insight into the maritime history from the early Viking settlements to the late 20th century and the economic importance it still has today.
    • Admission to the Hallgrímskirkja, which is Iceland’s tallest and most famous church. Its unique architecture is inspired by the fascinating shapes that occur when lava cools into rock. Your admission will also include access to the tower top.
    • Guided tour of the Harpa Music Hall, which is one of Reykjavík’s most prominent landmarks. Learn about the exciting history of this site, beginning with the financial crisis in 2008.

  • DAY 8: REYKJANES REGION

    • Guided bus tour of the Reykjanes UNESCO Geopark, during which you will visit the ON Geothermal Energy Exhibition. Additionally, you will see the geothermal areas in Krýsuvík as well as the dramatic coastlines on the Southern coast of Iceland.

  • DAY 9-10: REYKJAVÍK

    • Admission to Perlan, which is situated on top of a hill on the edge of Reykjavík. The museum displays several exhibitions on the different biotopes that are present in Iceland and also features a walkable ice cave.
    • Enjoy a free afternoon in Reykjavík
    • Farewell dinner at an Icelandic restaurant
    • Departure from Keflavík International Airport (KEF)

  • What’s included in this sample itinerary:

  • The program fee is based on a minimum number of paying participants, usually 12 paying participants.
  • The expenses for one accompanying faculty leader are calculated into each participant’s fee.
  • The custom quote will be based on different factors, for example: the program dates, the final participant number and number of accompanying faculty leaders, the duration of the program, the visits and excursions included, the type of accommodation, how many meals are included, etc.
