    Understanding that local needs, traditions, and conditions have to be taken heavily into consideration in order to achieve substantial and sustainable productivity gains is a major learning outcome for students in this program.

    Studying these topics in Scotland places agriculture and food science students directly into a different culture where they can learn to adapt and gain a broader international understanding far from their familiar setting.

    • DAY 1

      • Arrival at Edinburgh Airport (EDI)

      • Guided walking tour of Glasgow
      • Welcome dinner at a Scottish restaurant
      • Visit “The Scottish Farmer”, Scotland’s leading farming publication since 1893
      • Visit a traditional Scottish kilt manufacturer to understand the tradition of kilt making and the meaning of the different colors, patterns, and tartans
      • Guided tour of “The Lighthouse”, which provides fascinating insight into the design features and architectural heritage of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s first public commission
      • Admission to the Glasgow Botanic Gardens, which were originally used for concerts and other events

    • DAY 5-6: CRIEFF - NAIRN - INVERNESS

      Stay 3 nights at a 3-star hotel in Inverness

      • Guided tour of the Drummond Castle Gardens in Crieff, focusing on horticulture
      • Guided tour of a whiskey distillery to experience the distillery’s long and distinguished heritage (tasting included)
      • Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
      • Admission to the Cawdor Castle, which is surrounded by three gardens: the Flower Garden, the Wild Garden, and the Walled Garden
      • Free time to explore Inverness

    • DAY 7: HIGHLANDS

      • Guided bus tour of the Scottish Highlands, which includes many stops to explore the famous Loch Ness, a set of lochs built around 200 years ago, and much more

    • DAY 8-9: ST. ANDREW’S - EDINBURGH

      Stay 5 nights at a 3-star hotel in Edinburgh

      • Guided walking tour of the Old Course at St. Andrews, following the footsteps of golf’s greatest athletes
      • Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
      • Guided walking tour of Edinburgh’s Old and New Town
      • Admission to Edinburgh Castle, which dominates the city’s skyline
      • Audio-guided tour of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official residence of the Monarch of the UK in Scotland

    • DAY 10: MOFFAT AREA - LANERCOST

      • Visit a sheep or cattle farm to learn about farming and its challenges in Scotland
      • Admission to the Hadrian’s Wall Visitor Center to explore the former defensive fortification during a self-guided walk

    • DAY 11-13: EDINBURGH

      • Visit Quality Meat Scotland, the public body responsible for helping the Scottish red meat sector improve its efficiency and profitability
      • Free afternoon to further explore the city
      • Guided tour of Alnwick Castle, one of the largest inhabited castles in Europe
      • Farewell dinner at a Scottish restaurant
      • Departure from Edinburgh Airport (EDI)

    Explore Italian culture and history through the universal language of food. Gain first-hand knowledge and understanding through the exploration of deep-rooted regional cuisines and develop an appreciation of the culinary cultures by touring and tasting regional specialties.

    • DAY 1

      • Visit a winery in the Tuscan region, including a tasting, where you will learn about wine production
      • Visit an olive oil mill in Volterra to get an introduction into the culture of olive growing in Tuscany (tasting included)

    • DAY 5-6: ROME

      Stay 2 nights at a 2-star hotel in Rome

      • Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
      • Guided walking tour of Rome to see among others the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish steps, and many other highlights of the “Eternal City”
      • Cooking class, during which you will prepare a 3-course meal of the regional Roman cuisine

    • DAY 7-8: POMPEII - SORRENTO

      Stay 3 nights at a 3-star hotel in Sorrento

      • Guided tour of Pompeii, a ruined and partially buried Roman city. It was destroyed and completely buried during a catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 and rediscovered in 1748.
      • Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
      • Visit a limoncello and cheese factory to learn about the production of the famous limoncello and the mozzarella cheese and to taste some of their specialties

    • DAY 9-11: CAPRI - ROME

      • Round-trip ferry tickets to and from Capri
      • Free day on the island of Capri. You may wander through the streets of the historic center of Capri.

      Stay 1 night at a 2-star hotel in Rome

      • Check-in at the hotel
      • Farewell dinner at an Italian restaurant
      • Departure from Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO)

    Iceland is known for its commitment to environmental change and harnesses its unique geographic and geothermal landscape to generate more than 99% of the country’s energy. On this program, students will explore Iceland’s historc and contemporary global economic, political environmental, and cultural impact. This interdisciplinary program includes visits to a variety of cultural sites and environmental sites to develop a well-rounded perspective of how Iceland’s culture grounds its dedication to developing renewable energy.

    • DAY 1

      • Flight to Reykjavik, Iceland (group flight can be booked separately)

    • DAY 2-4: REYKJAVIK

      • Orientation session by your on-site CEPA coordinator
      • Guided walking tour of Reykjavik
      • Welcome dinner at an Icelandic restaurant
      • Admission to the National Museum of Iceland, to explore the permanent exhibition “Making of a Nation.”
      • Admission to the Settlement Exhibition – Reykjavik 871± 2. The exhibition is built around ruins of a viking longhouse and deals with the settlement of Reykjavik
      • Guided tour of the Icelandic Ocean Cluster to learn about the Icelandic seafood industry and the ocean cluster

    • DAY 5-7: REYKJAVIK - HAUKADALUR VALLEY

      • Guided tour of the Golden Circle, one of Iceland’s most popular routes.  The highlights of the route include the famous geysers Geysir and Strokkur in the Haukadalur valley, and the Gullfoss waterfall, which is called the “Golden Falls” as the water falling down into a 32 meter deep crevice looking golden during a sunny day.
      • Lunch in Friðheimar and a visit to the local greenhouse
      • Admission to the Volcano House in Reykjavik, which gives a brief overview of Iceland’s geological history and volcanic systems

    • DAY 8-10: REYKJAVIK - GEOPARK

      • Audio-guided tour of the National Maritime Museum to explore its seven exhibitions which display Icelandic maritime history from the early settlements to the late 20th century
      • Guided bus tour of Reykjanes UNESCO Geopark which includes a visit to the ON Geothermal Energy Exhibition in Hellisheiði geothermal power plant, the geothermal areas Krýsuvík and Gunnuhver, dramatic coastlines and a shipwreck near the small fishing village Grindavík
      • Farewell dinner at an Icelandic restaurant
