    Criminal justice is the system of practice and institution of government directed at upholding social control, deterring and mitigating crime, or sanctioning those who violate laws.

    This study abroad program focuses on the criminal justice systems in England and Scotland, specifically on their core agencies, such as: the local courts and the police. Students enrolled in criminology or criminal justice courses will visit prisons and observe trials to allow them to make comparisons to the system employed in their home country.

    • DAY 1

      • Overnight flight to London, UK (group flight can be booked separately)
    • DAY 2-8: LONDON

      • Orientation session by your on-site CEPA coordinator
      • Welcome dinner at an English restaurant
      • Guided walking tour of Westminster focusing on the developments of the Constitutional Monarchy and the governmental system
      • Visit the Westminster Magistrate Courts together with a local guide specialized in law
      • Guided tour of the Clink Museum
      • Guided walking tour on “Jack the Ripper” with a focus on the social history and crime investigation
      • Visit various prisons, to learn about the history of the facilities and the penal system in the UK
      • Visit a criminal court to observe the proceedings with a lawyer, to learn about the building, and to discuss the death penalty
      • Meet with a former police officer
      • Admission to the Sherlock Holmes Museum
      • Guided tour of the Royal Court of Justice
      • Admission to the Tower of London
    • DAY 9-12: EDINBURGH - KINCARDINE

      • Train from London to Edinburgh
      • Visit Her Majesty’s Prison Edinburgh
      • Visit a Scottish police college in Kincardine to discuss philosophies and techniques of their police training
      • Guided walking tour of Edinburgh
      • Admission to the Edinburgh Castle
      • Farewell dinner at a Scottish restaurant
    • What’s included in this sample itinerary:

    • The program fee is based on a minimum number of 12 paying participants.
    • The expenses for one accompanying faculty leader are calculated into each participant’s fee.
    • The custom quote will be based on different factors, for example: the program dates, the final participant number and number of accompanying faculty leaders, the duration of the program, the visits and excursions included, the type of accommodation, how many meals are included, etc.
