This course provides the opportunity for students to gain an appreciation for the different lifestyle choices and the impact they have on health. Robust discussions exploring the scientific study of health and wellness will focus on epidemiology research, social factors, genetics, and lifestyle choices, and their impact on the prevention or development of chronic conditions.
Students will receive a cross-cultural and historical perspective of various health remedies and practices. Experiences and lessons in this study abroad program will serve to deepen students’ understanding of key health topics as they move forward in their academic and professional fields.

  • DAY 1

    • Overnight flight to Athens, Greece (group flight can be booked separately)
  • DAY 2-6: ATHENS

    • Orientation session by your on-site CEPA coordinator
    • Welcome dinner at a Greek restaurant
    • Guided tour of the Acropolis, the greatest and finest sanctuary of ancient Athens, dedicated to its patron: the Goddess Athena
    • Gourmet walking tour of Athens, in which you will visit various specialty food shops, delicatessens, aromatic bakeries, restaurants, dairies, and spice vendors
    • Traditional Greek cooking class coupled with a lesson on the cultural and medicinal bases for the dietary selections
    • Visit a winery to learn about the process of wine making (tasting included)
    • Visit to a Holistic Health Center
    • Day excursion to Aegina
  • DAY 7-13: HERAKLION

    • Optional plane tickets from Athens to Heraklion and return
    • Orientation session with your on-site CEPA coordinator in Heraklion
    • Guided tour of the archaeological site of Konossos, one of the most important palaces of Minoan civilization and the legendary sear of King Minos
    • Guided walking tour of the old central market (1866 street) and the fish market
    • Visit a winer, where you will be introduced to Cretan wine heritage and will have the possibility to taste some wines, a selection of Cretan cheeses and other delicacies
    • Guided tour of an apiary to learn about Cretan bee farming. Cretan bee hives and apiaries are spread across the island and provide a wide range of honey varietals that mimic the island’s unique geography and wild flora
    • Visit an olive oil producer to learn more about olive oil production and the health benefits of naturally derived oils
    • Return to Athens
    • Farewell group dinner at a Greek restaurant in Athens
