Look into a crystal ball: AI predicts faculty-led program success

Thursday, March 21 from 3:45 PM – 5:00 PM

Faculty-led programs depend on leader know-how and motivation, and lack thereof causes hesitancy to promote programs to students. Using artificial intelligence, practitioners can gauge whether faculty feel hesitant about proposed programs. In this study, text analysis, which identifies patterns and sentiment in human-written text, predicts if programs will run or be cancelled. Administrators may use this data as intervention for more efficient program management and reduce cancellations.

Absolutely Incredible? Using AI tools to evaluate student learning abroad

Friday, March 22 from 1:45 PM – 3:00 PM

Impactful learning depends on engagement, reflection, and insight, latent factors that are difficult to measure without survey instruments. Artificial intelligence now enables insights into phenomena related to transformational learning. Using a text analysis method to examine qualitative student reflections reveals patterns and trends that predict quantitative survey instrument responses, suggesting AI can serve as an easy and unobtrusive means to monitor student learning.
