Students participating in this program will learn more about the Roman Empire, artists such as Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, also including Italian patrons of art, for instance the Medici family.

  • DAY 1

    • Overnight flight to Rome, Italy (group flight can be booked separately)
  • DAY 2-3: ROME

    Stay 4 nights at a 3-star hotel in Rome

    • Arrival at Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO)
    • Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
    • Guided walking tour of Rome to see some highlights the “Eternal City” has to offer, such as the Spanish steps, Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, and the Navons Square
    • Welcome dinner at an Italian restaurant
    • Guided tour of the Coliseum, the first permanent amphitheater to be built in Rome
    • Admission to the nearby Roman Forum, the central area around which the ancient Roman civilization developed, and the Palatine
    • Admission to the Basilica San Clemente, which is a Roman Catholic minor basilica dedicated to Pope Clement I
  • DAY 4: POMPEII

    • Guided tour of the ancient site of Pompeii, a ruined and partially buried Roman city
  • DAY 5: VATICAN CITY

    • Guided tour of the Vatican Museums with the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica
    • Free time to explore, for example, Galleria Borghese, which displays numerous paintings, sculptures, and antiquities
  • DAY 6-9: FLORENCE

    Stay 4 nights at a 3-star hotel in Florence

    • Train tickets from Rome to Florence
    • Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
    • Guided walking tour of Florence to see sites such as the Medici Palace, the Baptistry and Cathedral with its Giotto’s Belltower, the Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizi’s Gallery, and the Old Bridge of Florence
    • Admission to the Palazzo Vecchio and its museum, which is a Romanesque, crenellated fortress-palace
    • Guided tour of the Galleria dell’Accademia, which is without a doubt most famous for its sculptures by the great Renaissance artist Michelangelo
    • Guided tour of the Palazzo Medici-Riccardi, one of the main residences of the first branch of the Medici family
    • Admission to the Basilica di Santa Croce, the burial place of some of the most illustrious Italians
    • Guided tour of the Galleria degli Uffizi, where a collection of Primitive and Renaissance paintings comprises several universally acclaimed masterpieces, including works by Leonardo da Vinci
    • The remainder of the day is free to explore Florence’s art and architecture on your own
  • DAY 10: FLORENCE - PADUA - VENICE

    Stay 4 nights at a 3-star hotel in Venice

    • Admission to the Capella degli Scrovegni, which contains a fresco cycle by Giotto, completed about 1305
    • Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
  • DAY 11-14: VENICE

    • Admission to the Palazzo Ducale – Doge’s Palace, formerly the doge’s residence and the seat of Venetian government
    • Admission to the Basilica San Marco and its bell tower, which is one of the best-known examples of Byzantine architecture
    • Glass blowing demonstration on the island of Murano, known for its fancy glass wares, to learn about the craft of glass blowing first hand
    • Admission to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, which is among the most important museums in Italy for European and American art of the 20th century
    • Use your last day in Venice to wrap up the program and for final class discussions
    • Farewell dinner at an Italian restaurant
    • Departure from Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE)
