It is becoming increasingly important for healthcare students to gain a global perspective and expand their cultural understanding.

This program features an itinerary full of visits to reputable hospitals, companies operating in the healthcare sector in Germany as well as Swiss institutions like the World Health Organization or UNAIDS in Geneva. Students will be prepared to make a difference in the world by understanding their own personal global impact.

  • DAY 1

    • Overnight flight to Frankfurt, Germany (group flight can be booked separately)
  • DAY 2-3: STRASBOURG

    Stay 7 nights at the European Study Center Strasbourg (Château de Pourtalès)

    • Arrival at Frankfurt International Airport (FRA)
    • Check-in at the Château and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
    • Guided walking tour of Strasbourg to discover the “Capital of Europe” and learn about its history; see among others the Strasbourg Cathedral and Maison Kammerzell
    • Welcome dinner at an Alsatian restaurant
    • Visit a hospital in Strasbourg, including a presentation on the French healthcare system, e.g. Saint Vincent, to understand the day-to-day tasks of nurses and doctors in France
    • Admission to the Albert Schweitzer Museum, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953 for his philosophy “Reverence for Life” and founded the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Gabon, Africa
  • DAY 4: FREIBURG - BAD KROTZINGEN

    • Visit the University Hospital of Freiburg Center of Nursing Education to learn about the hospital and its organization as well as the education of nurses in Germany during a discussion with instructors and a tour of the hospital
    • Visit a spa town in the Black Forest, such as Bad Krozingen, to meet with a representative of the tourist office or wellness clinic to better understand the concept of “taking a cure” in Germany
  • DAY 5: OFFENBURG

    • Visit a German health insurance company, e.g. the AOK in Offenburg, to understand the German concept of being covered by a basic health insurance plan provided by statute
    • Visit the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines and Healthcare (EDQM), a leading organization that protects public health by enabling the development, supporting the implementation, and monitoring the application of quality standards for safe medicines and their safe use
  • DAY 6: HEIDELBERG

    • Visit the residential home “St. Thomas e.V.”, a special place offering the patients the chance to live outside a psychiatric hospital despite their handicap
    • Guided tour of the German Pharmacy Museum, which is located inside the Heidelberg Castle, and holds a collection of over 20,000 objects representing the rich history of medical sciences
  • DAY 7-8: STRASBOURG

    • Free day to explore Strasbourg’s sites at your own pace
    • Bus tour along the famous “Route du Vin”, including a guided tour of the Castle Haut Koenigsbourg and a visit to an Alsatian winery to learn about the production of wines and more (tasting included)
  • DAY 9-12: GENEVA

    Stay 3 nights at a 3-star hotel in Geneva

    • Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
    • Visit the UNAIDS Headquarters, the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS that leads and inspires the world in achieving universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support
    • Visit the World Health Organization, the directing and coordinating authority for health within the United Nations system, for a presentation on “Prevention in the Healthcare Sector”
    • Guided tour of the Red Crescent Museum, situated at the birthplace of the International Red Cross, to discover the history of the world’s first humanitarian organization
    • Visit the International Council of Nurses, the world’s first and widest-reaching international organization for health professionals
    • Free afternoon to explore Geneva on your own
    • Farewell dinner at a Swiss restaurant
    • Departure from Geneva Airport (GVA)

  • Program fee starting at € 1,840 per participant based on a group size of 15
  • All program fees are calculated to include participation of one accompanying faculty or group leader.
  • Prices are based on a minimum number of 15 or 20 paying participants.
