This course provides an opportunity for students to gain an appreciation for different lifestyle choices and the impact those choices have on health. Facilitated discussions focusing on the scientific method, epidemiology research, and lifestyle contributors to the prevention or development of chronic diseases will occur throughout the course.

Students will gain an international perspective through a rich study abroad program with valuable experiences that students can draw from as they progress through their academic and professional path.

  • DAY 1

    • Overnight flight to Athens, Greece (group flight can be booked separately)
  • DAY 2-4: ATHENS

    Stay 5 nights at a 3-star hotel in Athens

    • Arrival at Athens International Airport (ATH)
    • Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
    • Welcome dinner at a Greek restaurant
    • Guided tour of the Acropolis, the greatest and finest sanctuary of ancient Athens, dedicated primarily to its patron, the goddess Athena
    • Visit a winery to learn about the process of winemaking (tasting included)
    • Visit the Holistic Health Center to learn about the center in general and their methods of treating each person as a whole
    • Cooking class in the evening, during which you will prepare a traditional Greek dish
  • DAY 5: AEGINA

    • Round-trip ferry tickets to and from Aegina
    • Visit the Saronic dialysis center, which provides the highest standard of therapeutic services for renal patients, which meet modern medical regulations
    • Free afternoon on Aegina
  • DAY 6: ATHENS

    • Gourmet walking tour of Athens, during which you will visit various specialty food shops, colorful and alluring delicatessens, aromatic and tempting bakeries and sweet shops, restaurants, dairies, spice, grocery, and pie shops
    • Free afternoon in Athens for your own explorations
  • DAY 7-8: HERAKLION

    Stay 5 nights at a 3-star hotel in Heraklion

    • Optional: Group flight from Athens to Heraklion
    • Check-in at the hotel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
    • Free afternoon in Heraklion
    • Group dinner at a Greek restaurant
    • Guided tour of the Archaeological Site of Knossos, one of the most important palaces of Minoan civilization which, according to the tradition, was the seat of the legendary king Minos
  • DAY 9-10: CRETE

    • Visit an apiary to learn more about Cretan apiary and bee farming. Their hives are spread across the island and give them a wide range of varietal honey featuring the depth and diversity of Cretan wild flora.
    • Visit a winery, where you will be introduced to the Cretan wine heritage and you will have the possibility to taste some Cretan wines as well as a selection of Cretan cheeses and other delicacies
    • Guided tour of the old central market (1866 street) and the fish market
    • Visit an olive oil producer to learn more about olive oil production, which begins when the olives that freshly arrive at the mill are carefully poured into a stainless-steel container that delivers them into an endless screw
  • DAY 11: HERAKLION

    • Free day in Heraklion
  • DAY 12-13: ATHENS

    Stay 1 night at a 3-star hotel in Athens

    • Optional: Group flight from Heraklion to Athens
    • Check-in at the hotel
    • Farewell dinner at a Greek restaurant
    • Departure from Athens International Airport (ATH)
  • Optional:

    Flight tickets from Athens to Heraklion and from Heraklion to Athens can be arranged for your group at additional cost, depending on availability at the time of booking.
