Vienna has long been renowned as the music capital of the world. Elegance, style, and fine arts are embodied in Austria’s culture and landscapes. Great concert halls and opera houses delight music lovers with excellent performances of the greatest works by master musicians. This program offers a taste of this noble musical culture for students who already appreciate the intricacies of the fine arts. The lives and works of many famous Musical Masters, such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, will be examined.

  • DAY 1

    • Overnight flight to Vienna, Austria (group flight can be booked separately)
  • DAY 2-5: VIENNA

    Stay 7 nights at a hostel in Vienna

    • Arrival at Vienna Schwechat Airport (VIE)
    • Check-in at the hostel and orientation session by your CEPA On-Site Coordinator
    • Audio-guided tour of Schönbrunn Palace, one of the most important cultural monuments of the country that was placed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List
    • Welcome dinner at an Austrian restaurant
    • Admission to the Haus der Musik, the first museum of sound and music in Austria. A range of hi-tech interactive and multimedia presentations introduce the world of music.
    • Free afternoon for you to explore the city and to spend some time in one of the many cafés the city is known for
    • Optional: Tickets to a performance at a theater or opera in Vienna
    • Guided tour of Schubert’s Geburtshaus, the house where the great composer Franz Schubert was born in 1797. Today, it presents an impressive documentation of his musical development, his circle of friends, and the important stages of his life.
    • Audio-guided tour of the Mozarthaus, which presents the life and work of the musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, with particular emphasis on his Vienna years from 1781 to 1791
    • Classroom available for 2 hours at the hostel or nearby for a class session
    • Enjoy a free afternoon in Vienna for coursework or to discover the city further
    • Optional: Tickets to a concert in Vienna
  • DAY 6-9: VIENNA

    • Back-of-the-house tour of the Theater an der Wien, one the most beautiful theaters in Vienna to see the foyer, the auditorium, the stage and downstage, and the dressing-room area
    • Audio-guided tour of the Vienna Central Cemetery to see burial sites of some of the most famous Austrian musicians, e.g. of Beethoven, Mahler, Strauss, and many more
    • Back-of-the-house tour of the Wiener Staatsoper to learn about the history of the opera, its operations, and the architecture of the building
    • Admission to the Beethoven “Pasqualatihaus” in Heiligenstadt, the house in which Beethoven lived for 8 years and which is named after its owner Josef Benedikt Baron Pasqualati
    • Admission to the Johann Strauss House. In 1867, Johann Strauss composed the world-famous waltz “The Blue Danube”, Austria’s “unofficial national anthem”, in this apartment.
    • Admission to the Haydn House, which holds a museum that focuses on the last years of the composer’s life, linking them to the political and social setting of his time
    • Farewell dinner at an Austrian restaurant
    • Departure from Vienna Schwechat Airport (VIE)

    Theater, opera, or concert tickets can be arranged for your group at additional cost, depending on availability at the time of booking.
