Winners of the People’s Choice Contest
It was inspiring to see the study abroad community and CEPA followers unite on our social media channels to support their favorite submissions.
Their collective enthusiasm and encouragement truly highlighted the strength of our shared connections.
Congratulations!

Grace Hasenkamp, Purdue University, “Cathedral Luminescence” Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Rouen, France
After seeing several paintings from Claude Monet’s series of the Rouen Cathedral while in Paris, I was excited to see the cathedral’s intricate architecture as we traveled to Rouen. However, I was not expecting to have the chance to see a light show within the inside of the cathedral that highlighted its history and beauty in such a unique and immersive way!

Brooke Dowrey, University of Connecticut, “Postcard from Hallstatt” Austria
Studying in the capital of Austria, sometimes life felt fast-paced. Even though the journey to Hallstatt was lengthy, the beautiful town of Hallstatt was more than just picturesque. It was a place that was filled with history in such a quiet town and really captured the variety that Austria has to offer, from the mountains of Hallstatt to the bustling city of Vienna.

Leo Ostigaard, South Dakota State University, “A window into tranquility” Königssee at Berchtesgaden, Germany
As I hiked along the trail by the Konigssee with my fellow students, we came to a lookout point to rest, and I was absolutely stunned by the view that opened up before us. With tiny waves scattered on the surface of the lake, bold mountains meeting the shore, St. Bartholomew's church looming far off in the background, this scene felt unreal, and I knew I had to capture the moment with a photo.
A Big Shout Out
We would like to recognize all the students who participated in the photo contest, even if they did not win an award.
We appreciate their efforts, as each photo and description showcased a unique aspect of their study abroad journey with CEPA.
We encourage them to continue expressing themselves through their art and exploration of the world!

Ashlyn Sullivan, University of North Texas, “Basking in Beauty” Széchenyi Thermal Baths, Budapest, Hungary
The intricate mosaics lining the ceilings and walls were so stunning that I nearly forgot to buy the online tickets before walking up to the entrance of the baths. Later, as I sat admiring the artwork while soaking in the baths, I could not help but have so much gratitude for the opportunities my Europe trip had given me.

Ashlyn Sullivan, University of North Texas, “Stari Most” Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina
This picture is special to me because it was the location of our last class picture. At this point in our day trip to Mostar, I had taken pictures of every angle of this bridge - or so I had thought. It was almost poetic to experience the most gorgeous view of the bridge on our last full day while surrounded by classmates I had become so close with in just three weeks

Ashlyn Sullivan, University of North Texas, “Building Bridges, Holding History” Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Today, the bridge arching proudly over the Neretva River is utilized by tourists and residents to walk the bustling streets of Mostar. Three decades ago, the bridge lay in ruins at the bottom of the river from the Bosnian War. The strength of the city is palpable when seeing and walking across this bridge, knowing that in just twenty years, its people were able to rebuild themselves despite the destruction.

Bell Evan, Southern Utah University, “High Expectations” Paris, France
One of the main reasons so many people visit France is to see the stunning and breathtaking architectural accomplishments found in the country's monuments. From the Eiffel Tower to ancient chapels, to castles and palaces, to memorials and sacred tombs, the people of early and present-day France have clearly held high expectations for others and themselves. I wish to be like them.

Brooke Dowrey, University of Connecticut, “Wandering the Streets” Paris, France
One of the most shocking aspects of my time abroad is the transportation systems. For example, each place I visited abroad was extremely walkable, and I would walk an average of 15,000 steps a day which is almost triple what I do at home. This picture captures walking the streets of Paris, which is one of my favorite memories from trip even if it seems minuscule.

Bryce Lyon, Arizona State University, “Love Never Dies” Frankfurt, Germany
My German STEM experience taught me to value precision, innovation, and diversity—principles that also resonate deeply within the LGBT culture, where uniqueness and creativity thrive. As I navigated scientific challenges in this country, I found community and pride in queer spaces that celebrated authenticity and inclusion. This dual journey strengthened my identity, showing me that being analytical and being proudly queer are not only compatible but beautifully complementary.

Cassy Miller, University of Central Florida, “Bundestag—To the German People” Berlin, Germany
The parliament building in Berlin, formerly the Reichstag, is now being referred to as the Bundestag in order to steer away from civil division and more towards a truly unified Germany. The inscription above the entrance, “Dem Deutschen Volke,” means “To the German People”— very indicative of its goal of inclusivity, mirrored by the diversity of our study abroad group featured in the picture.

Chen Cindy, Kennesaw University, “New Peaks and Perspectives” Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region
This picture captures the moment where we walked back down from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes to our hotel after the sunsets. That day was filled with breathtaking activities as we rode up to the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in the famous "Bubbles" (cable car cabins), did a small picnic/lecture, and took in a magnificent view of the city of Grenoble with the sun setting behind the surrounding Alps.

Collins Eden, University of Florida, “UF in Europe- Sustainability Politics “Peaks and Pure Happiness on top of the world in the Alps” Chamonix De Mont Blanc, France
The beauty of the Alps inspired me to take this photo with my friend; it felt like we were in a postcard. Being surrounded with such breathtaking nature with one of my closest friends I made on this trip reminded me why I chose to study abroad: to embrace new experiences and see the world from a different perspective.

DeSalvo Brianna, The College of New Jersey “Ocean Views of Ireland”
Traveling to Ireland opened my eyes to all of the natural beauty. The greenery and ocean views were absolutely breathtaking.

Diego Gonzalez, California State University San Marcos, “A glimpse of Amsterdam” Netherlands
Drifting along Amsterdam’s canals was peaceful and surreal, with quiet water and historic buildings bathed in golden light. It gave me a new appreciation for how the city’s beauty is calm, detailed, and deeply rooted in its culture.

EmmaLeigh Dieguez, Arizona State University “Alone, Not Lonely” Fløyen, Bergen, Norway
The quiet appreciation of being alone that Norway can provide, whether it is in the busy city center of Oslo or this quiet forest on Mount Floy led me to want to capture this moment. It felt monumental to me, being able to be alone yet not feel lonely, and take those steps forward onto this hike by myself; it wasn’t an easy hike, but one that became 25 kilometers with just my mind to push me forward. This moment and hike felt symbolic to my own journey, where sometimes I do feel alone but now I find comfort in that, rather than loneliness, encouraging me to take one step forward even when it becomes hard.

Grace Hasenkamp, Purdue University, “Cliffside Views” Étretat, France
One of my favorite towns to visit on my study abroad trip was Étretat! The stunning cliffs and vibrant colors made the steep hike to the top more than worth it!!

Grant Sternhagen, South Dakota State University, “Alpine Bliss” Königsee, Germany

Jack Hershberger Prague, Georgia College & State University, “Architectural Valor of Prague” Czech Republic
My program took us to Berlin where we studied capitalism versus communism during the cold war and what stuck out to me about the west side as it appears very modern because of the city's rebuild. On the east side however, the buildings are gothic and have the old town feel. In Prague, where I also got to visit, is where this photo is taken and I took it because it was built as an architectural jewel and withholds the history of the land.

Kelly Jacinto Ozuna, Georgia State University, “Greens of Versailles” France
For the first time during my study abroad trip, I was surrounded by endless greenery, far from the noise and pace of the city. The peacefulness and natural beauty of Versailles made me pause and truly take it all in. It was a moment that reminded me how refreshing it is to slow down and just be in the moment.

Thang Lian, Middle Tennessee State University “Match Day at Parc des Princes” Paris, France
Attending a Paris Saint-Germain football match, experiencing the energy and community of local sports culture firsthand.

Macy Tran, University of California, San Diego “Old City Bern” Switzerland
From where I’m at, I’d always drink water from a plastic bottle. But seeing many locals drink water from fountains/sinks, convinced me that this will be a new normal, in this new world

Madison Silcox, Virginia Commonwealth University, “In Comparison” Strasbourg, France
Each of my photos were taken during my 10-day study abroad trip this past spring break. I was most amazed by the architecture of the city, the cathedral, and the castles in both Heidelberg and Strasbourg, where we spent our time. I'm a photographer back home, so naturally, I was drawn to take as many photos on my trip as I could. Some were taken on an old-fashioned digital camera, adding a vibe to the images I thought best matched the stunning European cities.

Mayee Duong, University of California, San Diego “Your Royal Adventure Awaits!” Frederiksborg Castle
Castles are pretty cool and my childhood self (who has always wanted to be a princess and live in a castle) would be excited to step foot into one. I luckily got to explore a real castle for the first time in my life and was amazed to see all the artistic and architectural details, plus learn about the Danish monarchy’s long history.

Mayee Duong, University of California, San Diego “A glint of a smile at Møns Klint :)” Møns Klint, Borre, Denmark
While Copenhagen is definitely a great city in itself, I really wanted to
visit a unique landscape with some of the new friends I made from my program and take advantage of the super accessible transportation. The chalk cliffs were luckily very easy to get to from the city by train and I'm glad I got to explore a stunning landmark in a different part of Denmark!

Mayee Duong, University of California, San Diego “IKEA rooftop garden, Copenhagen”
Copenhagen is known to be one of the most sustainable cities in the world. The IKEA rooftop garden near the hotel we were staying at is just one example of the countless natural public spaces in Copenhagen. My friends and I took a leisurely stroll in what seemed like a garden in the sky with the cool “cactus” buildings in the background.

Melanie Huffman, Arizona State University “Bridging Communities” Geneva, Switzerland
This bridge in the middle of Geneva was adorned with queer, Swiss, and Genevian flags which showed the city's pride and claim to all these groups. I loved seeing that and the openness of expression in Geneva and that is something I noticed in other cities across the countries we visited as well.

Melanie Huffman, Arizona State University “Orange Glory” Darmstadt, Germany
This church was unique in having a singular light source at the top through stained glass. Every church or cathedral we entered was unique and showcased the history of the area.

Melanie Hufmann, Arizona State University, “Cathedral on a Hill”
We walked the vineyards spanning the Swiss and German border and got to see this cathedral standing on a hill. It was peaceful there and nice to see such fluidity between border countries, something I like a lot about Europe as a whole compared to how restrictive America is.

Mia Tallman, West Virginia University, “Champions!” Paris, France
My group and I were in Paris on the night their team won the world championship for the first time. We had NO idea it was happening— but the city was so alive that night. It was hectic but we realized through the chaos that we were witnessing history and a once-in-a-lifetime moment. So we all took pictures in front of the Eiffel Tower, lit up with French colors to celebrate the win. This one is mine.

Thao Truong, Georgia State University, “A view worth a million… maybe even more” Monte Carlo, Monaco
My inspiration: Monaco had long lived in my imagination — partly for the thrill of Formula 1, but even more for its breathtaking beauty that feels almost otherworldly. I was drawn to the contrast: the sleek luxury set against intricate, old-world architecture; the vibrant hues of the Riviera sky melting into the sea. Experiencing it in person was surreal — like stepping into a painting. This photo captures just a glimpse of that feeling — a place where elegance meets edge, and every view feels one of a kind.

Mollie King, University of Califonia, San Diego, “See the trace of time unfolding” Copenhagen, Denmark
There’s a Danish term used to conceptualize tracks and traces– either physical such as by an animal or human, or something abstract like an emotion. The word is “Spor”. Now that I know, I see them everywhere in the city, subtly denoting the passage of time and history, old and new. Do you see it here?

Nava Pidugu, Georgia State University, “Beneath the stone lies a story; above it, a masterpiece that mourns and honors” Paris, France
When I walked by this tombstone I was stunned at this masterpiece. I didn’t know a tombstone could look so beautiful. It was carved in silence, this tombstone doesn’t mourn- it tells. Of a life once lived, a love once lost.

Olivia Cassidy, University of Connecticut, “”Made in Austria” Vienna
Vienna’s architecture represents to me the history and past of the city. My study abroad group went to Vienna to learn about all their advancements and their gender inclusivity. It’s amazing to think about how this beautiful city was able to evolve, and the buildings are a symbol of tradition and progress.

Ren Pot, Arizona State University, “Blue mist” Schaffhausen, Switzerland
I took this photo while racing up the fortress in Schaffhausen with two of my friends and our instructor. It was a beautiful misty scene that made me and another stop to admire it, ultimately losing the race.

Ren Pot, Arizona State University, “Culture Through Religion” Ingolstadt, Maria De Victoria, Germany
The intersection of religion and culture is something I find very inspiring and important. On this trip there were so many amazing examples. Maria De Victoria being one of my favorite churches.

Selah van Vloten, Arizona State University, “Tarte Flambee for Two!” Colmar, France
How could I pass up such an Alsatian treasure that is THE tarte flambee?! I was very excited to finally experience the love and appreciation that is poured into every ounce of locally sourced food, let alone the cultural significance behind the dish. I found the history of Flammekueche so touching, as Alsatians have never taken advantage of any crumbs left in the stove and have instead used this as an opportunity to feed more mouths in their neighborhoods!

Taylor Smith, South Dakota State University, “The Stroll over Salzburg” Austria

Yash Khetan, Purdue University, “Relections in Stone” Berlin Holocaust Memorial

Madison Tolley, Virginia Commonwealth University, “Camel ride in Morocco!!🐫” Agadir, Morocco 🇲🇦
Studying abroad encouraged me to leave my comfort zone and try new things. I wanted to do something that I never thought I would be able to see or do. The friends I made during the semester and program encouraged me to travel, study languages, and learn new cultures, which helped me stay motivated!

Carissa Mollet, Purdue University, “Moring on the Canal” Nyhavn, Copenhagen, Denmark
I know coffee is huge in northern Europe, so what better way to get as close to living life like the locals do than getting a coffee and taking a morning stroll along the beautiful canal? And, of course, what’s a breathtaking view if there’s not a picture to remember it by?

Julia West, The College of New Jersery, “Conquered Mount Etna”
Mount Etna was huge! All of the craters, the view, were breathtaking. Also breathtaking due to less oxygen at that altitude.

Julia West, The College of New Jersery, “Beautiful Taromina” Sicily, Italy
Taromina was absolutely gorgeous. One of my favorite spots was the garden, the flowers are so vibrant and beautiful. It was one of the prettiest places I’ve ever seen.

Zens Sierra, University of Florida, “Vienna Rose Gardens”
The photo is of me at the Volksgarten in Vienna during my group's time in the city. It was my favorite place in Vienna, and I was very lucky to be able to visit when the roses were in bloom.

Mandi Nicole Pelley, Wingate University, “Lasting Friendships” Berlin, Germany
This photo was taken at a restaurant called Lily Burger. The reason behind taking this photo is that this is when my group was able to bond with each other and create friendships.

Madalynn Derrenberger, Queens University of Charlotte, “Mean Mr. Goose” Kew Gardens, UK

Gia Poston, California State University, San Marcos, “Wondering While Wandering” Highline 179 & Ehrenberg Castle, Reutte, Austria
A magical day of immersing in this picture-postcard moment. Exploring the Ehrenberg Castle and crossing the Highline 179, suspension bridge was such a thrill! Amazed by the green tapestry of history, tradition, and the modern wonder in Austria!

Jack Hershberger, Georgia College and State University “Astounding Alpines” Oeschinensee, Kandersteg, Switzerland
My whole stay in Zurich I was astounded by the city's beauty. After speaking with some locals, they told my friends and I to take a day trip to Oschinen Lake. I was filled with awe and amazement at the beauty of the glacier lake with the mountain backdrop, printing a smile on my face I couldn't wipe off.

Jasmine Barba, Santa Barbara City College, “My Whimsical Childhood dream” Tiergarten, Berlin, Germany
It was my first time in Europe, but the moment I stepped into Berlin’s Tiergarten, I felt like I had been there before—in a childhood dream. I grew up watching princess movies on VHS tapes, believing in castles and happily ever afters. That day, sunlight spilled through the trees like golden glitter, dancing across my skin and the quiet pond behind me. I wore a floral dress, floated in a rowboat, and for a fleeting moment, I wasn’t just a young woman exploring a new city—I was five years old again. And the little girl in me finally got her fairytale.

Kareena Jethva, University of the Incarnate Word, “Keeks in Stras”

Kyle Ferguson, South Dakota State University, “Jenner Mountain”

Eliza Fowler-Bettis, University of Tennessee Knoxville, “Tick Tock” Big Ben, London
We saw so many important landmarks while traveling across the U.K. We stepped out of the train station and were greeted by Big Ben and it was a beautiful surprise.

Charlee-Grace Bailey, Georgia College & State University “The Lake of Life” Lucerne, Switzerland
Lucerne, Switzerland is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, and this lake encapsulated it. The various species all living among one another reminded me of Europe.

Anna Cruickshank, Georgia College and State University, “Taking Flight” Interlaken, Switzerland
After studying Global Leadership for a week in the chateau, my friends and I wanted to truly experience the world unlike ever before. We took a weekend trip to Interlaken, Switzerland and decided to take a leap and paraglide through the Swiss Alps. We flew over mountains and saw the breathtaking mountains and I truly lived my life that day!

Ally Kakaty Georgia College and State University “A Picnic Paradise” Paris, France
I have always associated new travel experiences with being surrounded by my family. The first time I was in Paris, my family enjoyed a sunset picnic in front of the Eiffel Tower. This time, I got to recreate the experience with my study abroad peers - my second family!

Allison Erickson, University of Oregon, “Looking Over Berlin from the Reichstag Dome” The Reichstag building (German parliament) in Berlin, Germany
