Louise Caroline Smuts

Study Abroad Coordinator

Louise grew up in Cape Town, South Africa, and during her high school years joined two exchange programs to Germany, which were very formative experiences for her and also started a love for traveling and experiencing new cultures. After high school, she decided to return to Germany for a bachelor’s degree and studied Journalism, Strategic Communication, and Politics at the University of Passau in Southern Bavaria.

During her studies, she was able to travel for longer periods to Turkey and Austria with work abroad programs. These experiences and the exchange programs in Germany all contributed to an appreciation for learning new languages, and cultures and gaining valuable experiences with people from all over the world.

Louise loves music and plays the piano in her free time, has an avid interest in learning new languages, and believes the best way to experience new cultures is through language, food and art. She also loves reading and being outdoors in nature.

She is fluent in English and German and her native language Afrikaans, which is a daughter language to Dutch.
